As arranged BT arrived today to connect up our phone. I had
previously collected cable from the BT depot, and laid it
out from the nearest pole. I was told to leave 5 metres at the pole,
and about 1 foot hanging out of the wall.
The connection had to come from 3 poles up the road, that was the nearest connection point, so he had to connect there and run a cable down to the pole nearest us, which he then connected to our armoured cable. Half an hour later, and we have a landline!
He expressed concerns about our plan to use the same cable for the house as we are using in the mobile - the surveyor said we should just disconnect the reel from the mobile and roll it down to the house at a later stage. This would however mean leaving ducting to pull the bt cable through, so I dont know how practical that would be. The surveyor is to call with us again, hopefully we will come up with something! Posted Sat Aug 30 12:16:44 2003I looked on the BT website to see how to go about getting a new line setup. It seems simple to move house, move to BT, or come back to BT, but no information on first time connection.
So I called BT, and was told I needed to speak to BT external planners (local office). I got the number for the Coleraine office, and spoke to a guy there who was very helpful about the whole process. He said that I needed to call them about two weeks before we wanted the phone installed.
The assessor came out and measured up for cable to do for both the caravan and the house. I then had to call into the BT yard to pick it up.
The digger came, and we got the cable installed, then it was a call to 150 to order my new line. They said I would hear back about the 4th August. About a week later I called BT, and they said it had been booked for the 27th August.
On Wed 27th the BT man came, and connected it all up - simple!
