I started to paint today - I talked to the contractor to see if it was alright to start, and he thought it should be ok. I started upstairs and got a coat of white on two bedrooms. There is still an aweful lot to do...
The guttering people were back today, and have installed the downpipes.
Today was a good painting day, we got one coat on the whole hall, and a first coat of colour on Matthew's room. It really changes the look of the place, and it's very handy having no skirting or doors to worry about!
The plasterers returned today to put a coat of sand and cement on the inside corner of the garage, which has been built up to allow the boiler to be housed there.
The painting continued tonight, it was very slow. I wanted to put a final coat on the hall, but only got the upstairs done. I started on the kitchen, but again progress was slow - there are too many lights and other awkward things :)
The plumber was back today, and has the boiler installed. The hot water cylinder has also beed delivered, so the heat should be on by the end of the week!
The painting continues, slow progress tonight, just some cutting in done in preparation for some colour in Kate's room.
With the boiler installed the builder made a simple shed to temporarily enclose the boiler. The electrician was back tonight and hopefully the builer should be ready to start tomorrow, so we can get the heating on in preparation for the joinery.
More painting, tonight I got *another* final coat on the hall ceiling, and first coats on the kitchen and living room ceilings. At least you can see a bit of progress today!
The kitchen is now complete, all the handles have been fitted and the worktop has been finished on the island. [more]
I made good progress with the painting, I managed to do the ceiling of the conservatory, good room, and made a start on the toy room.
The fireplace for the living room was fitted today, a little sooner than expected. The joiners were also back today and have the banister fitted to the stairs.
The electrician was here today, and has checked out and connected each socked and light.
The painting also continues with all the downstairs ceilings complete, and a first coat on almost all walls.
We started to dry line the attic today, it is a lot of work, but its already looking a lot better. We had hoped to get round it all once yesterday, but it took a lot longer than we thought.
Not much done tonight, finished the first coat of colour on the living room, and got a first coat on the kitchen. There is still a lot to be done before the joiners come back on Monday
The electrician was back tonight, all the circuits have been fully tested, and all the kitchen lights are in - it is really looking well. The septic tank now also takes its power from the house, so gradually ties are being cut to the caravan. The halogen light is also now working in the back yard giving a good bright yard.
The contractor has delivered the doors today, and they look well. We were worried about the arched head on the glass doors, but we think it will look fine.
The contractor brings cleaners close to the end of the build to clean the windows and doors. They arrived this morning, and have been working all day. They have all the insides of the windows cleaned, but still some outsides to do - they said they would return tomorrow.
The joiners were also here today sanding the doorframes to make them ready to start hanging doors on Monday.
Just over two weeks later and all the ceilings are done and most of the rooms have a coat of colour. Today I got three bedrooms, one ensuite, and the kitchen done. Phew!
The joiners will be back on Monday to finish off the house, the contractor told me that although there are two weeks left on the schedule, most of the work will be complete by the end of the incoming week.
The door hanging has started and all the downstairs doors are on, and most of the upstairs are too, only four left to hang!
Work continued elsewhere as the back doorsteps were built, and the hole left for services to the garage was also filled in.
The site was very busy today again, joiners continued to hang doors, and have now got a lot of the door handles on. The skirting board and arcitrave all arrived today too.
The suite we ordered from Reids came today, but unfortunately there was some sort of mix up with the single-seater, and it hasn't been delivered.
All the sanitaryware arrived today too, and is all piled in the living room. Hopefully it won't be too long before the plumber has it all fitted. He got the main shower, and the bath in this afternoon. The cisterns for the two ensuites are not the correct ones, as we didn't want the top flushing ones, so that will have to be sorted tomorrow.
There is also a small problem in the bathroom, the wall was left un-skimmed for tiling, but unfortunately the shape of the shower is not as big as we had thought, and there is a small portion at the sides of the showers which would need skimmed.
The joiners have been busy getting doorhandles and catches on, and have now started on the arcitrave They have done two bedrooms, and some of the hall, its going well!
Dad was also back tonight doing some more dry lining in the attic. The second coat is finished on the study, and the first coat is on the other room. I don't think we are even going to do the store room.
Some of the plumbing stuff which was delivered was incorrect, so the plumber won't be back until it's all there. Unfortunately this means that it will be the middle of next week before the plumbing is completed.
We advertised the caravan in the Autotrader today, so we will wait for callers now!
The joiners continue to work their way around the house, putting the skirting and arcitrave on as they go. I would guess that they have another couple of days work at it yet.
The small door was fitted today for the access into the roofspace above the living room.
We set about tiling the wall area round the worktop today, dad arrived at around 1pm, and we got started. By 6pm we had the whole kitchen area finished.
We went to Tobermore Concrete Products Ltd this morning to pick up the paving for the front door step.
We had two callers about the caravan today, one came to view but I don't think they were really that interested.
Dad was back today and has tiled the utility room, so it is all ready for grout.
The joiners have almost finished all the skirting and have started to sheet the bathroom walls.
The joiners have completed the tounge and groove sheeting in the bathroom, and have also finished off the area around the landing.
The joiners have finished off the last few jobs, tidied up and left.
The gas installer was back, and has the cooker in place and all connected up.
Two oif the cisterns were delivered icorrectly, we wanted lever flush, rather than button. The correct ones were supposed to be delivered today, but haven't been, and the plumber won't return until all the stuff is there.
The plumbing stuff was supposed to arrive today, but once again we are being fobbed off with bad excuses. We are told it will arrive tomorrow.
The cleaners were back tonight, and have finished off completely now.
The plumber returned today at lunchtime and has plumbed the toilets, and the remaining showers/basins. This leaves the work complete, except for filling in around the area where the plumber kangoed out.
We decided to move in today, although all our stuff isn't in yet. All the beds, and most of the necessities are there, so it's just a short trip to the caravan for anything else!
